Poor Heise Boy will have to make a short break: After falling off his own homegrown 10 ft. gap rail, he dislocated his shoulder. “The ground was quite hard and frozen. I thought I can roll it off like a Ninja on the floor. But no worries: only 2 weeks rail pause. In the meantime I’ll be building some new ones! Bigger ones.” Get better soon dude!

November Surf

The same artic system which creates snow also generates waves. So why not ignoring the temporary rise of the freezing level for surfing? The adriatic still had some cosy 12°C water temp. We were looking like raisins after 3 hours in the line up, but what the heck…

MT. BAKER SKI AREA WILL OPEN THURSDAY NOV. 29th!

Monday, November 26th, 2007

While we are still waiting for the storm to hit as of update time, forecasts are calling for a 100% chance of snowfall with up to 14 inches of snow falling by opening day. This snowfall, on top of our current 15-inch snow base, would set up a Heather Meadows opening and hopefully allow us to open Chair 5 as well. Addtional snow is forecasted for Wednesday night and Thursday, which should put a nice topping on the base and may allow us to open White Salmon for Friday.

Check the snow report this week for updated snow info and detailed operation schedule. We look forward to seeing you on the mountain starting Thursday!

Dennis Flipping Japanese

Nice shot showing Dennis Ehlert at Silvretta Nova. The shot is about six months old, but seeing the mess on Dennis’ desktop, it is no miracle the photo turned up almost a season later. It was one of the rather larger kickers in the alps last season. Dennis, stalling a nice backflip japan à la XL.

Hakuba/Japan is getting some as well …

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Weather conditions: Cloudy and partially obscured atop upper slopes. Clear with sunny patches at mid-mountain and down in the valley.

New snowfall: 2 cm (at the base) 10 cm (at 1,500 m a.s.l.)
Snow depth: 10 cm (at the base) 100 cm (at 1,500 m a.s.l.)

One incredible first day here on Happo-One Ski Resort today with freshies to be found all over the place. Alpen Lift and the 2 Panorama Lifts were open today with uploading from the Gondola. Boot high powder on all open runs and groomed terrain on the run between Panorama Lifts. Current base is at the 100cm mark, and the strong winds of last night filled in all the gullies and deposited plenty of snow on the upper slopes.

Mt. Baker 2007-08 Pre-Season Snow Report

Well, we are on the very cusp of opening, and we hate to miss the Thanksgiving Holiday, but with this high pressure system sitting here we have to hold off till we get a bit more snow.

For all you backcountry hikers and snowplayers, Heather Meadows Day Lodge will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am - 4 pm with food & beverage service, and the Heather Meadows Retail & Repair shop will also be open.

The good news is the high pressure system is supposed to move out on Sunday, and forecasts are calling for 10 - 12 inches of new snow to fall by next Wednesday. That snowfall would enable us to open Heather Meadows and perhaps Chair 5 . . . so stay tuned!!

A.R.C. teamrider and punkrock frontman Mark Dembler is slightly aimless. The original name of the band - “THE AIMLESS” - has been changed to “WHITE AVENUE”, by reasons human beings will never be able to understand. And now we are back again to “THE AIMLESS”. Mark - you are aimless, and we love you for that. New tracks can be downloaded or listened to right here. Female fans can get in touch with M.D. through his website. Or through the A.R.C. headquarter.

GLOBAL SNOW REPORT

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

From our friends at snow-forecast.com:

INTRODUCTION

Most of the Austrian resorts are seeing a great start to their winter season as snow continues to fall. Out of the open resorts Pitztal benefited the most receiving 50cm of fresh snow. Kitzbuhel has opened for weekend skiing one month earlier than expected following the recent snowfalls. Cervinia in Italy, Tignes in France and Gstaad and Les Diablerets in Switzerland are all closed due to high winds affecting lift operation on Monday. The lifts at Engelberg in Switzerland are closed until 23rd November for maintenance. Eleven resorts across USA are scheduled to open this week including Solitude, Heavenly and Crest Butte. Following a week of snow Kitzbuhel (25/130cm) opened its lifts on the 10th November a month ahead of schedule. (more…)

Little Trip to Colorado

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Tom Wallisch

This past weekend I few friends and I made the relatively short 7 hour drive from Utah to Colorado for some early season, lift accessed (thank god), shredding. The weekend was full of rail slides, box grinds, and butters. We were also able to catch a little hangtime here and there. Check the pic for now, until I can post up some clips from the weekend.

How to BBQ.

Monday, November 12th, 2007

neu-1.JPG

Photo: V. Egetarian

Argentina doesn’t only have nice mountains and beautiful chicks. It also has a, incredible BBQ culture. A.R.C. underground ambassador Miguel Duhalde and the renowned grillmaster Marcelo Blanco show us all the steps to prepare an authentic pampas style grill: from the different cuts and ways of roasting the meat to how to start the fire and obtain the ideal temperature of live coals to achieve that unmistakable flavor of grilled meat.

This DVD+Book set also explains how to grill on the cross grill and on the rotary plow, and shows how to prepare the traditional sidedishes of a “criollo” grill, such as sauces, typical salads, and grilled vegetables, as well as advice on which wine to choose to enhance this delicious combination of flavors.

The constant interaction between Marcelo Blanco’s words and the advice of the book will enrich your culinary knowledge, and will turn you into a real argentine grillmaster!
