McRae 2nd @ USANA Rail Jam / Salt Lake City

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

The Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah hosted a three-day festival celebrating the New Year. With ice-skating, live bands, DJ’s, and ski/snowboard rail jams, the event titled “Eve” had fun for EVEryone, EVErywhere.

Local skiers lined up to kick off the USANA Rail Jam on Tuesday, December 29th, going head-to-head for a chance to proceed to the final rounds of “The Jam.” Thirty competitors split into two-hour long heats and showed their best jibbin’ skills on three separate features: a tear box on skier’s left, a down-flat-down shotgun rail on skier’s right, and a proper gap-to-down box in between the two … THE FULL STORY HERE AT Newschoolers.com !

SNOWBOARD REVIEW: THE PARADIGMA

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Listen to what others say: “The Amplid Paradigma is advertised as one of the most versatile boards on the planet. Unfortunately I can’t approve that yet, as I wasn’t able to hit either park or pow with it. But what I can approve is it’s fantastic behaviour on groomers. The Paradigma held an stable edge no matter what surface I layed down a carve on as well as charging down the piste it had no chattering at all! Talking about carves, it is soo (!) much fun to use the whole width of the piste to extend your carves until the very last bit. Doing so, you’ll notice that the Paradigma offers you most, being ridden really actively. If you treat it right, it will endow you with some great liveliness and a poppy carve-feeling. Trying to do some piste tricks, the Paradigma showed me that it is not especially made for this. It has great pop for sure but is just too stiff and un-playful to do what you are used to, using a park noodle.

ARCTIC CHALLENGE POSTPONED TO MARCH 5-7, 2010

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

To protect the partners investments in TAC, the organization decided today to postpone the event to March. Warmer temperatures than normal in both November and December has made it impossible to produce enough snow.

The weather forecast for this upcoming week is very good for snow production, but long term weather forecasts are very unreliable. Today TAC needed to activate all arena rig and other investments, totaling several million Norwegian kroners with immediate effect. All this would have been sunk costs if the weather forecasts did not come true. TAC was not willing to take this bet against the weather forecasts. Especially as the bet included other people’s money – being the sponsors.

Sunk costs in this size would have blocked a backup opportunity in March. So TAC choosed the safe option: Postponing the event to March. There are no other TTR 6Star events in the weekend of March 5 to 7. It is also right before the European X Games, and after the Olympics, suitable for the migration of riders from America to Europe. TAC hopes this opens up for riders that are now focusing totally on the Olympic event and qualification.

ARTIFICIAL REEF

Friday, November 13th, 2009

This has nothing to do with the ARC, except that it’s revolutionary as well … enjoy this newsline:

Boscombe’s long-awaited surf reef is now ready for use and conditions this last week have been perfect for surfing the reef. The RNLI undertook their training at the weekend (Sunday 1st November), and following this, it was just a case of waiting for the right weather to declare the reef officially open.

wave

Jon Weaver, Marketing and Events Manager for Bournemouth Tourism said, “For once, the weather appears to be on our side. Almost no sooner than the RNLI have completed their training, the final stage we had to go through before we could launch, the swell is perfect – decent waves, around eight seconds apart with a gentle breeze.
