Brand Focus – Amplid Snowboards
Monday, October 26th, 2009Snowboard Review caught up with Co-owner of Amplid, Peter Bauer to find out a bit more about the brand…
Amplid have been going for 5 years, in that time owners Peter and Anian have created some incredible skis and snowboards, but more importantly, they’ve created a brand that has earnt respect and admiration from both camps, a tricky tightrope to walk. Peter’s illustrious history with snowboarding, his understanding of riding, knack for pushing snowboard design and an incessant desire to find the latest and highest performance materials means that Amplid Snowboards are some of the most technologically advanced rides on the planet… we were blown away by them at the snowboard test. Snowboard Review caught up with Peter to find out a little more about Amplid.
Amplid @ Snowboard-Review.com
Tuesday, August 25th, 2009There aren’t many people on this planet that understand snowboard design like Peter Bauer. With an illustrious career in the sport dating back to the early 80s, Peter has rode through the development of the sport. From pushing his Burton Cruiser Swallowtail to the limits around the World Cup slalom courses to pioneering freestyle riding on the first twin tipped Burton Air in a pair of ski liner packed Sorel boots (workmen’s boots reinforced with Gaffa tape!), Peter’s lived through, and been hugely influential to the development of Snowboard equipment.
After years of tinkering around with snowboard design Peter found himself helping his friend (now business partner) Anin with the design of a new ski brand. Experimenting with new materials and resins in the same factory that he’d been in 20 years earlier developing prototypes for Burton, Peter unearthed a burning desire to create a killer snowboard brand. Amplid was born! Peter is in a unique position where his riding ability and the knowledge of design he’s picked up over the years …

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009Level 1 Make Me Famous Edit
Thursday, May 14th, 2009Josh Berman @ Level1:
Our friends over at BNQT.com have teamed up with Coast Body Wash to launch the first annual Make Me Famous sponsorship contest, awarding the winning skier or snowboarder a year-long sponsorship deal worth $20k. We’ve gathered some of Tom Wallisch’s best content from the past 3 years, (with the exception, of course, of all his new content which we’ll have to keep exclusive to Level 1′s latest flick, “Refresh”), and edited it all together in one of the most impressive displays of talent that we’ve seen in a while.
LEAVE A COMMENT AND HELP TOM ENTER THE FINALS !
Check out the HD version below, then head right on over to check out Tom’s entry on the official Coast contest site and leave a comment. In order to be considered for the finals, we need at least a few people to drop some kind words in the comment field.
Check out all the official rules and regulations at coast-makemefamous.com.

TOM WALLISCH LEADING THE AFP WORLD RANKING SLOPESTYLE
Tuesday, May 12th, 2009The Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP), the voice of freeskiing, has calculated it’s final world rankings for men’s and women’s halfpipe, slopestyle. big air and overall winners for the 2008-09 season.
The AFP ranking system was developed to track men’s and women’s competition results of more than 18 events held on four continents in slopestyle, halfpipe and big air in order to name true global world champions. The AFP has developed an event ranking system that creates balance between the different formats and levels of events held throughout the world, separating them into four categories, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Events are ranked based on course construction, prize money, media exposure and level of athlete participation and receive maximum point values based on this criteria. The top four individual results for halfpipe and top 3 results for slopestyle and big air are used to determine athlete rankings and discipline champions.
In men’s slopestyle, relative newcomer Tom Wallisch, 21, originally from Pittsburgh but now resides in Park City, UT , staged a late season surge to take the AFP World Champion Slopestyle title for 2008-09. With wins at Dew Tour #3 in Northstar and at the Dumont Cup at Sunday River, ME, along with a 2nd place at the European Open in Laax, Switzerland, Wallisch compiled 2,040 points in his three qualifying results and made his claim to surge past 2nd place finisher Henrik Harlaut, 17 from Are, Sweden. Harlaut had wins at the Aspen and European Opens and two top five finishes at Dew Tour to garner 1,890 points. Sammy Carlson, 20 of Tigard, Oregon came in third with a 2nd place at X-Games and two top 4 finishes at Dew Tour with a total of 1,700 points.

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009
Ah, how they grow: what just yesterday seemed a gangly, pimply and socially awkward ski event called the West Coast Session has quickly matured into a full-grown, hairy-chest man event. What’s become Mt. Hood’s signature spring park skiing session is back for a third year, and it’s bigger and better than ever.
Presented by AMPLID and Newschoolers.com, the West Coast Session gathers 25 of the world’s top young park skiers for a four-day film and photo shoot on the unique creations of the Timberline Lodge terrain park crew, documented by a group of equally talented guys behind expensive lenses who will capture all the action for extensive event coverage on Newschoolers.com.
