Adventure 1.2 – A UK Ski Trip

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

The plans for the second installment of Just Passing Thru are coming together. Adventure 1.2 will encompass a five-day skiing road trip through the UK with the likes of Tom Wallisch, Matt Walker, and myself. Beginning in London, the crew will have a chance to explore the city while attending the London Freeze, which features both a Big Air and Rail Jam event this year.

Following a short stay in London, the crew will depart on a two day skiing adventure; led by Jiberish UK rep Neil MacGrain. We will be skiing at the dry-slope resort of Bearsden Ski Club in Glasgow, as well as the indoor snow facility of Chill Factore in Manchester.
In addition to some skiing, we also hope to partake in a series of tourist activities along the way. Neil, our tour guide for the trip, explains some of his plans,
“For the culture stuff I have a few ideas. There is plenty of classic tourist stuff in London; Trafalgar Square, Houses of Parliament, London Bridge, English pub meal, warm English beer? Don’t ask me I’m Scottish. In Manchester I’m sure we can find something Northern for you. In Glasgow, we can go to a castle, get rained on, and go for a curry. You’ll probably struggle to understand some of the locals, I do and I live here. You can try the local food and drink along the way too.”

Sounds like a pretty good UK ski trip to me! October 28th – November 4th are the official dates; stay up to date with our trip here at justpassingthru.tv

Also, the online thirty-minute broadcast version of Adventure 1.1 will be available exclusively here at justpassingthru.tv in the near future. Check out the trailer for a sample of what you can expect to see.

WALLISCH 1st @ NZ WINTER GAMES

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

The inaugural 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games began with the men’s and women’s freeski slopestyle event at The Remarkables. The world class slopestyle course was treated to clear weather conditions providing the athletes with a great start to the Games.
First place in the Men’s Final went to Thomas Wallisch from USA with a score of 82.80, second place went to New Zealander, Jossi Wells, with a score of 82.40, and third place went to USA’s Bobby Brown with a score of 80.60. The close scores reflected the tightness in the competition, “It was a really tough call between Wells and Wallisch and the final decision came down to just the slightest mistake,” says Head Slopestyle Judge, Phil Larose.

Thomas Wallisch was pleased to win the inaugural event, “I was really stoked with the win and it was a really fun event. I’m glad I got to come out and participate.” Jossi Wells, who finished a close second, was nevertheless excited to compete in a world class event in his hometown. “It is cool to have a competition at home and be able to bring all my mates to come down and do a competition in my backyard,” he said.

Watch the 4BI9 crew in their 2008-2009 season, as they travel around the globe in an attempt to document this year’s most creative and progressive freeride skiing.  Whether its Collin Collins and Witt Foster shredding neck deep powder, ARC riders Tom Wallisch and Steve Stepp absolutely destroying the park skiing scene, or Henrik Harlaut closing down every single handrail in Salt Lake City, this year’s film has a little something for everyone to enjoy.  Once criticized for our controversial and often belligerent approach to skiing, the 4BI9 crew now sits back and reflects on the lengths we have traveled since our inception.  Therefore, it is at this time that we proudly present our 3rd feature length film, SO FAR SO HOOD.

Tom Wallisch, King of ‘Banging

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

What is after-bang? After-bang was a term coined by the snowboard production company, Robot Food, as well as the title of its first movie. In 2002, Robot Food defined after-bang as “the desperate attempt to compensate lack of style after landing.” It is a last minute shot at redemption on an otherwise failed maneuver. Tom Wallisch is proclaimed to be the king of after-bang because of his graceful landings. However, his take offs are just as smooth and his tricks are more floated than the arms of a four-year-old in a swimming pool. His flawless style in the air makes Tom Wallisch the king of ‘banging: before-bang, mid-bang, and after-bang. The trifecta! Not to mention that he can slay any urban feature put in front of him.

Level 1 Make Me Famous Edit

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Josh Berman @ Level1:

Our friends over at BNQT.com have teamed up with Coast Body Wash to launch the first annual Make Me Famous sponsorship contest, awarding the winning skier or snowboarder a year-long sponsorship deal worth $20k. We’ve gathered some of Tom Wallisch’s best content from the past 3 years, (with the exception, of course, of all his new content which we’ll have to keep exclusive to Level 1′s latest flick, “Refresh”), and edited it all together in one of the most impressive displays of talent that we’ve seen in a while.

LEAVE A COMMENT AND HELP TOM ENTER THE FINALS !

Check out the HD version below, then head right on over to check out Tom’s entry on the official Coast contest site and leave a comment. In order to be considered for the finals, we need at least a few people to drop some kind words in the comment field.

Check out all the official rules and regulations at coast-makemefamous.com.

TOM WALLISCH LEADING THE AFP WORLD RANKING SLOPESTYLE

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

The Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP), the voice of freeskiing, has calculated it’s final world rankings for men’s and women’s halfpipe, slopestyle. big air and overall winners for the 2008-09 season.

The AFP ranking system was developed to track men’s and women’s competition results of more than 18 events held on four continents in slopestyle, halfpipe and big air in order to name true global world champions. The AFP has developed an event ranking system that creates balance between the different formats and levels of events held throughout the world, separating them into four categories, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Events are ranked based on course construction, prize money, media exposure and level of athlete participation and receive maximum point values based on this criteria. The top four individual results for halfpipe and top 3 results for slopestyle and big air are used to determine athlete rankings and discipline champions.

wallisch

In men’s slopestyle, relative newcomer Tom Wallisch, 21, originally from Pittsburgh but now resides in Park City, UT , staged a late season surge to take the AFP World Champion Slopestyle title for 2008-09. With wins at Dew Tour #3 in Northstar and at the Dumont Cup at Sunday River, ME, along with a 2nd place at the European Open in Laax, Switzerland, Wallisch compiled 2,040 points in his three qualifying results and made his claim to surge past 2nd place finisher Henrik Harlaut, 17 from Are, Sweden. Harlaut had wins at the Aspen and European Opens and two top five finishes at Dew Tour to garner 1,890 points. Sammy Carlson, 20 of Tigard, Oregon came in third with a 2nd place at X-Games and two top 4 finishes at Dew Tour with a total of 1,700 points.
